About the Tour

School group cultural tours

Take your class on an exclusive Aboriginal cultural journey as you walk the land with Traditional Custodians and caretakers. Guringai Aboriginal Tour takes primary and secondary students on a journey of discovery in World Heritage listed Ku-ring- gai Chase National Park where they learn how our Aboriginal ancestors used the site as a classroom, cared for the land and how it cared for them. The tour visits a cave with stencil art and a sandstone engravings site where the guides show how the art is done, how the carvings are made and how we read the site.

School incursions and presentations

Laurie has provided a wide range of school presentations and “incursions” to suite a range of curriculum outcomes and budgets.

The range of services and experiences available includes:

  • Welcome to country – this can be long or short depending on time available. Many schools engage Laurie to provide a Welcome to Country for special assemblies and presentations; this can also be incorporated into an incursion.
  • Smoking ceremony
  • Talks about Aboriginal culture with question and answer
  • Sandstone carving – Laurie can create a sandstone carving of your area totem on sandstone. We can use sandstone available at the school or supply. In some cases, Laurie has created the carving/s over a few days on the school grounds, allowing the children to watch, learn and ask Laurie questions throughout
  • Creation of clapsticks for the school which can be displayed in the school foyer. There are so many options! Please contact Laurie via email to discuss your curriculum needs and budget and we can work out a suitable program for your school.
